200 series stainless steel is a type of austenitic stainless steel that is generally used in a variety of applications. The 200 series is a class of austenitic (non-magnetic) stainless steels that are characterized by having a low nickel content. These are also referred to as chrome-manganese (CrMn) stainless steels.
Pipes and tubes made from 200 series stainless steel are typically used in the construction, food industry, and automobile sector due to their excellent forming and welding characteristics. They can be found in things like handrails, structural supports, water and gas lines, etc.
Compared to the 300 series stainless steel, the 200 series is less corrosion resistant. This is due to the reduced amount of nickel in its composition. Instead, it contains higher amounts of manganese which is cheaper.
