202 Stainless Steel is a type of chromium-nickel-manganese stainless steel which was developed to conserve nickel. It’s a lower-cost option to conventional Cr-Ni stainless steels such as 301 and 304.
However, the nickel in Type 202 is largely replaced by manganese which helps preserve the austenitic structure and provides similar corrosion resistance.
