Product Description
Type of carbon steel sheet/plate
Carbon steel plates are available in different grades depending on the carbon content and strength. There are low(mild), medium and high carbon steel plates. The more carbon there is, the more durable and stronger the board will be. There are further subcategories based on thickness and use, as well as the forming process. Typically carbon steel plates vary in thickness from 0.4mm to 80mm, widths from 1000mm to 45000mm and lengths up to 18m. But the length is customizable, which helps customers to personalize their purchases.
- Low carbon = .06% to .25% carbon content (mild steel)
- More pliable, easier to weld
- Medium carbon = .25% to .55% carbon content (medium steel)
- Provides a good balance between durability and workability
- High carbon = >.55% to 1.00% carbon content (hard steel)
- High hardness level which also means it can be more brittle

Production process of carbon steel plate

According to the production process, carbon steel plates can be divided into hot-rolled carbon steel plates and cold-rolled carbon steel plates. Hot-rolled steel is steel that has been rolled at high temperatures, while cold-rolled steel is essentially hot-rolled steel that has been further processed in cold-rolled material. Here, the material is cooled and then annealed and/or temper rolled.

For parts that require extremely high wear resistance, we use abrasive waterjet cutting to maintain hardness throughout the part without creating a heat-affected zone. For thicker plates up to 200mm, we use precisely controlled CNC oxy-fuel cutting. For products requiring high cut quality and dimensional tolerances, we use high-definition underwater plasma cutting to maximize plate performance in abrasive applications.

frequently asked questions
Carbon structural steel generally does not undergo heat treatment, but is used directly in the supply state. It is usually rolled into thin plates, steel bars, welded steel pipes, etc., and is used in bridges, buildings and other structures and the manufacture of ordinary rivets, screws, nuts and other parts.
High-quality carbon structural steel is mainly used in the manufacture of machine parts. Generally, heat treatment is required to improve the mechanical properties. Different carbon mass fractions have different uses. 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 steels have high strength, high plasticity and toughness, and are used to make shaft parts; 08, 08F, 10, and 10F steels are mainly used for cold rolling into thin plates for making instruments Cold stamping parts on shells, cars and tractors; 15, 20, and 25 steels are used to make carburized parts with small dimensions, light loads, wear-resistant surfaces, and low core strength requirements; 55, 60, and 65 steels It is often used to make springs with small load and small size (section size less than 12~15mm).
Carbon tool steel is generally used to manufacture various cutting tools, molds, and measuring tools, but this type of steel has poor red hardness, that is, when the working temperature is greater than 250°C, the hardness and wear resistance of the steel will drop sharply and lose the ability to work.
Free-cutting structural steel is an element that adds sulfur, lead, tellurium, bismuth and other elements to the steel to make the steel brittle, so that the steel is easily brittle and broken into chips when cutting. The use of free-cutting structural steel can increase the cutting speed and prolong the tool life. .
Carbon steel is most often mild or hot-rolled steel. As a corrosion-resistant and abrasion-resistant steel, carbon steel plates are well suited for applications requiring durability against stress and environmental stressors when used for outdoor purposes. Additional benefits of carbon steel plates include:
- Versatility when compared to other materials, carbon steel plates are available in a wide selection of thicknesses and widths;
- Carbon steel plates offer excellent ductility;
- Cost-effective alternative to aluminum or stainless steel;
- Malleable and easy to fabricate;;
- Can be galvanized for corrosion-resistance.
